What discount is provided?
A 50% discount on the basic fare in Economy class is provided to people with disabilities. There is no rebate on taxes and other charges. Only the basic fare is subsidized in this case. The destination can be anywhere in India and the India-Nepal routes.
One will have to book the ticket at least 7 days before the travel date. The tickets are valid for one year from the date of issue. the passenger with disability can cancel or change the ticket. The discounted tickets are refundable. However, various fees may be applied in case of cancellation / change / refund of tickets.
If children are accompanying the passenger with disability, they will not receive any concession. However, a concession of Rs. 1000 is available for the ticket of one accompanying infant (a child under 2 years of age).
Who is eligible?
Only Indian citizen who is:
- Persons with locomotor disability should have at least 80% disability, and is inclusive of those who have Paraplegia, Hemiplegia, Cerebral Palsy, severe cases of Poliomyelitis, Kyphosis, Muscular Dystrophy and/or Amputation. Or
- Persons with vision disability should have 100% visual impairment. Or
- Armed forces officers who became disabled during war time are also provided discounts in air fare. (Not only officers but their family members (i.e. spouse, dependent children between 02 and 26 years of age and dependent parents) are also given the discounted air fare).
What documents are required?
- To avail this discount, the passenger will need the following:
- a disability certificate or UDID card
- photo Id proof, example Aadhar, PAN card, passport etc.
- Additionally, Armed-forces officers would need to produce the official ID card issued to the serving personnel and dependent card issued to the family members.
Discounted Air Tickets for medical patients or Stretcher Users
Additionally, Air India provides a discount of up to 4 times the basic fare for a passenger who is on stretcher. Such a passenger must be accompanied by at least one able bodied person who can take care of the person on stretcher. Please note persons who are suffering from contagious diseases or whose behaviour might be hazardous to other passengers or the aircraft, will not be allowed boarding. A Performa for Stretcher Passenger should be submitted and be duly filled and signed by the passenger or next of kin or escort and the attending Physician. If this ticket is cancelling one hour or less before the departure, refund will not be made. Otherwise the ticket can be cancelled, changed, and refunded.
