An Access Audit is an assessment of a building, an environment or a service against a set of criteria prescribed in a standards to benchmark its accessibility, or ease of use, for people with disabilities. It identifies barriers for people with disabilities, sets out options for removing these barriers, and recommends which option is the most appropriate. Take for instance, an access audit for a building, say for an office premise, will ascertain how easy or difficult is it for a person who uses wheelchair to navigate independently. The office premise will be assessed on standards, say Harmonized Guidelines.
