Social security is aimed at ensuring an adequate standard of living for persons with disabilities. There are two types of social security programmes in India. First, Income security where the respective state government provides for disability pensions to maintain a minimum level of income for all. Second, Access to basic services, where the government provides access to food, clothing, housing, healthcare, and other poverty alleviation programmes, either by providing subsidies, direct transfers or through focus programmes. Swalamban Health Insurance scheme is an example here.
